Hawkesbury City Soccer Club
State League match reports 13/8/11
First Grade: Win 3-1
Hawkesbury’s impressive finish to the season continued when they met traditional rivals Prospect at Bensons Lane on Saturday night. The game was only 14 minutes old when the Hawks were awarded a corner and from the ensuing cross, fullback Ben Charles was able to score his first goal for the Hawks. Three minutes later a through ball from Ethan Simone found Hakan Celik in space and a chance to shoot but in an act of unselfishness he flicked the ball inside to Mick McCrory whose well taken shot doubled the lead. On the half hour mark, McCrory had another chance when Celik again turned provider to McCrory but with the goal at his mercy his shot sailed over the bar. With only minutes remaining in the half, Prospect were awarded a free kick just outside the penalty the area but Kyle Trefoni was able to deflect the danger away for a corner to leave the Hawks in command 2-0 at half time.
Two minutes after the restart a Vaughan Profilio free kick found the head of Simone and with the ball goal bound, he could only watch in amazement at the brilliant save from the Prospect keeper. One minute later the Hawks were dealt a cruel blow when a relatively harmless cross was deflected over the head of the Hawks goalkeeper Rob Greenway and a stumbling Trefoni could only slice the clearance into his own net to half the lead. In the 62 minute a Rob Carle pass found Celik but his shot was again well saved by the Prospect keeper. Five minutes later Prospect found space behind the Hawks defence and were able to chip the advancing Greenway but the shot went wide. The Hawks then suffered a blow when in form Ryan Wilson was harshly shown 2 yellow cards within the space of two minutes to reduce the Hawks to 10 men. The first deemed time wasting by the referee and the 2nd card when he was a victim of mistaken identity on a soft tackle. Prospect were throwing everyone forward and with 10 minutes remaining Greenway was forced to make another save. However in the 89th minute, a well placed pass from Trefoni found Celik who this time made no mistake to chip the Prospect keeper to ensure the Hawks won their 3rd win in a row. Reserve Grade: Win 4-2
The Hawks played Prospect at Bensons Lane on Saturday afternoon and despite playing well in patches, it took 20 minutes for the first goal to come. Brett Morley connected from a corner kick and headed home to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead, but it was shortlived, s Prospect hit back within a few minutes with a well struck goal. With 10 minutes to go to halftime, Zac Watters restored the lead and the Hawks went to the break with a 2-1 lead. Prospect came out in the second half determined to make a game of it and got back to 2-2 after 15 minutes, but the Hawks were not going to give up their top spot on the table and a further two goals to Zac Watters gave him his hat-trick and a 4-2 win to the Hawks. The Hawks played in a tough encounter to pick up the 3 points and kept top spot. Kravings man of the match went to Zac Watters.
