The 2007 season see’s the Hawks step up a level following the clubs
promotion into the “ NSW Conference League”, comprises of a
Northern ( Hawks group ) and a Southern conference.
Each conference group will fight out the season for the right to take
up a position in the finals to be fought out by the top two teams in
each group. Promotion to State League Division 1 will be the winner of
the finals series Grand Final.
With the first game in 2007 against a team that ran second in division
2 in 2006 the side had to be ready to fire right from the start. With
a less than perfect pre season the performance of the team was
outstanding as it quickly settled into a new formation with new
players and different positions to go down narrowly in a fast and
entertaining game.
Short of reserve strength on the day due to summer sport commitments
the side had to make do with a reserve bench made up of players that
had already completed a full game. In particularly hot conditions.
Reserve
Grade: Hawkesbury 5
Granville 3
Although starting the game with no fresh reserves the side went for
the early advantage with a number of narrow misses to their credit
before Greenisland managed to catch the defence on the break twice
to go in 0-2 at half time.
With a lot to do in the second half and a few small adjustments to the
sides shape it wasn’t long before the deficit was reduced to one with
a goal to Kyle Trefoni , quickly followed by the equalizer by Steve
Klinkacovski. With the opposition on the run the Hawks went for the
win banging in two more to Andrew Jones and a final to Peter Sultana
before the opposition scored a consolation third .
The Hawks welcome all players returning from last year and new players
Luke Vanderburg, Matt Sumeghy, Kyle Trefoni, Alex Baker David Lloyd,
Cain Mellan, Dallas Gray, Luke Ryman and Michael Sultana to the club
in ’07.
