Confronted with an unknown adversary in a team that came second in
the Southern Conference the Hawks reserves served up an outstanding
display to completely outclass their opposition. From the opening
whistle the Camden style of play was evident as they attempted to
hit the attacking zone as quickly as possible, relying on youth and
speed to make up for loss of ball possession. The Hawks initially
were a little flustered by the oppositions aggressive tactics,
finding it difficult to settle into their normal possession passing
game. Nathan Gray set this straight after about 15min as he headed
in from a corner to give the Hawks the upper hand. The half time
score of 1-0 was a fair reflection of the first half that was a bit
fast and furious.
The
second half saw the Hawks build from the back and attack down the
flanks to expose the Camden defence. On one such occasion a ball
played back into midfield and then played into the space behind the
defence for striker Andrew Jones to round the keeper to score the
Hawks second.
Steve
Klinkacovski playing a dominant role in midfield popped up on the edge
of the penalty box, controlled with his chest on the turn and neatly
slotted in the third and winning goal to secure a place in next weeks
preliminary final.
