The
first home game of the season turned out to be a hard fought
exciting encounter with White City, a club fresh from a number of
years in State League Division 1.
The
Hawks played an attractive possession game, not looking in any danger
of losing the game as they defended high up the park and attacked with
fast and efficient passing moves.
With
half time score locked at 0-0, the second half looked set to explode
as the Hawks attacked a tiring White City. Half way through the
section Paul Cooper came into his own leaving a number of defenders in
his wake as he drove home the opening goal.
Seizing the upper hand that the goal created the side went after
number two to seal the match, with Cooper coming close on two further
occasions, before having to leave the field following an unfortunate
tackle and a Hollywood performance from the opposition player.
White
City managed to grab the equalizer from a long range free kick that,
although saved on the first attempt, found the net off the cross bar.
Daniel Baker took out man of the match.

Down 0-1 inside two minutes, the side had a lot to do to get
anything out of the game following an early lapse in concentration
had allowed a run down the sideline with the resultant cross
clinically finished at the far post.
Over
the early jitters the side settled down to gradually gain dominance to
get back the early goal through Andrew Jones half way through the
first section.
All
even after the break, the Hawks took control of the game but somehow
the winner eluded them leaving the side ruing the missed chances that
only saw them get the single point when three would have been justice
on the day.
