Continuing on with the current form the side settled quickly to
dominate possession in an exciting first half of football that would
have satisfied the purest with goals and end-to-end action. Against
a pretty formidable Prospect side boasting a number of players with
higher grade experience the Hawks never took a backward step in
defence and midfield, gradually gaining the upper hand for Marc
Sluiter to slot home the opener after 19 min from a corner kick.
With the sides confidence up the game became a battle in midfield
until a lose ball rebounded to a forwards feet to score the
equalizer after 30 min. Not perturbed the Hawks took the lead again
straight from the kick off from an outstanding long range shot from
Rob Carle that left the keeper rooted to the ground as the shot hit
the back of the net. With the whistle for half time due to blow
Prospect drew level with an exciting second half on the cards.
Unfortunately this was not to happen as Mother Nature sent in a “Pea
Soup” fog that settled on the fields within minutes of the
resumption turning the game into a lottery. The Hawks were unlucky
enough to concede a free kick for handball 30m out, that when taken,
went almost unseen into the net. From there on the game was a
mystery as neither side could see who was who or in fact where the
ball was until the last second. Fortunately no player was injured
but the Hawks lost the lottery to go down narrowly.
Man
of the match was Davis Alvarez.
Reserve Grade: Hawkesbury 2Prospect 2
Playing against local clubs is always a battle and the reserves
fought out a very good draw against a young Prospect side. With
Andrew Jones going off after only a short period with injury the
forward line took on a new shape with Michael Goszko carrying the
extra load and the first goal to give the Hawks the lead half way
through the half. Fielding a very young side the Hawks never looked
back as they played a fine game of possession football to take a 1-0
lead into the break
A
goalmouth skirmish early in the second half resulted in the equalizer
before the work alcoholic Goszko grab his second and what looked like
the winner only to see the opposition pull back the lead late in the
game for a draw
