Faced with the loss of key players for the match the side put in a
terrific first half against the current competition leaders. The
game was a toe-to-toe affair until a well directed pass from
midfield found striker Rob Carle in space 25m out from goal who
drove in a low shot to give the Hawks the lead. The half was a fine
spectacle as both sides nullified each others attacking moves before
Greenisland grabbed the equaliser right on the half time whistle.
With
the second half all locked up it took a well-directed free kick to
gain advantage for the opposition after 58 min, leaving the Hawks
chasing for the remainder of the half. Pushing forward looking for a
result, having forced a corner the side was caught on the break with a
runaway goal in the 88 minute for the final score.
Man
of the match was Gavin Hartge.

Although having the lion’s share of possession the Hawks were
constantly stifled by a determined Greenisland defence and a lack of
luck around the penalty box to struggle to get on top of the
opposition. Andrew Jones slotted home the opening goal following a
good build up section of play before Greenisland pulled back the
lead just before half time. The second half saw the side with a more
determined attitude, pushing forward at every opportunity to get on
top in the match, but faced a determined defencive opposition.
Andrew got over the defence from a cross to put away the second goal
only to see a late goal mouth squirmish see the opposition put in
the equalizer close to the final whistle.
